Dita Von Teese 3-D Dress

Recently I found out about this gorgeous 3-D printed dress that was made by the designer Michael Schmidt. The piece was worn by burlesque star Dita Von Teese and is said to be the world's first articulated 3-D printed design. I'm amazed by the look of this as it fits Dita perfectly and is so beautiful and flattering. I'm also curious to know what the material feels like. It's exciting to think that in future years this technology could be more widely available and eliminate a lot of annoyances such as fit. You could create the perfect custom garment.

Digital Skins

This is a piece of augmented reality from designer Jenny Lee for her MA in Textile Futures at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, London. I found this quite interesting because for part of my event idea, I would like to create an app or a website page where for the WAH Nails competition I would have, the customer could use augmented reality. The app could be downloaded or viewed on the Wah Nails site from phone camera or webcam, and the customer would put their nails over the camera. The camera would then pick up a nail pattern at random and if a certain pattern showed up, that meant that they won a free manicure on the event night.

The app would then still be kept as a pattern browser before the customer went to the store to have their nails done.

Visiting Wah Nails @ Topshop

This past Saturday, I visited the Wah Nails concession in Topshop's flagship store because I thought I could possibly talk to a member of staff about what they thought about my idea for their company. Upon looking back on it, I thought doing this wasn't the best idea because the staff didn't seem too interested. I think sometimes I over plan and I treated this too much like it was going to happen and I need to scale my ideas down. I also need to keep budgeting in mind when planning so I will stick to the simpler idea.

Ideas for my event:

  • Having a competition using augmented reality
  • Having a booth in the event where while the nails are drying, the customers can play with an augmented reality video booth using certain patterns that trigger a video animation.
  • The competition would result in 5 lucky customers winning a free manicure worth £32.
  • Drinks, nail pattern cupcakes and Celebrity DJ
